Fandy Ip is a partner of Vivien Chan & Co. and represents clients in all areas of intellectual property practice including non-contentious, contentious and transactional IP.

Fandy regularly advises on all areas of intellectual property including IP portfolio management in Asia, strategy against bad faith squatters, licensing and other transactional intellectual property, IP due diligence and strategic acquisitions, prosecution and unfair competition law in China and Hong Kong.

Fandy also passed the Greater Bay Area Legal Professional Examination in China in 2022.  The Greater Bay Area comprises 9 municipalities of Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Zhuhai, Foshan, Huizhou, Dongguan, Zhongshan, Jiangmen and Zhaoqing in Guangdong Province, which is key to China’s strategic planning and innovation-driven development.

Outside of work, she enjoys Pilates and wine. Originally from Macau, Fandy is fluent in English, Mandarin and Cantonese.

REPRESENTATIVE EXPERIENCE
  • Representsing a French luxury fashion house to take back its Chinese house mark by multiple opposition and invalidation appeals, negotiation and unfair competition litigation
  • Advises a leading video game and software development company on IP protection, including devising branding strategy, conducting clearance searches and securing trademark registrations for the client’s cutting-edge technology and initiatives in China and Hong Kong
  • Representsing a French leading brand on clothing and lingerie against an individual who previously negotiated an acquisition with client’s China arm, and forged our client’s signature and fraudulently transferred our client’s marks to her own name, suspending and nullifying the assignment by administrative, civil and criminal means
  • Assisted cting for a UK pet food brand to buy back its house mark from squatter, and devising actions against the squatter to exert pressure and secure the deal expeditiously
  • Advising a leading video game and software development company on trademark protection and against infringement in China and Hong Kong
  • Assistsing a US direct selling company to build from scratch their intellectual property portfolio in Asia, tackling imposters, trademarks squatters and previous distributors, taking down imposter websites and social media accounts
  • Acts for a charity in the minting of NFTs from artworks jointly created by an individual artist and by a robot for a charity auction
